Guiding Principles for Responsible Community Journalism

The Mainstreeter’s Editorial Policy (May 1, 2026) sets out the standards, values, and decision‑making principles that guide our newsroom. It explains how we ensure fairness, accuracy, independence, and accountability in all of our reporting. As a community‑run, non‑profit newspaper, we believe that transparency about how we work is essential to maintaining the trust of our readers, contributors, and neighbours.

This policy outlines how editorial decisions are made, how conflicts of interest are managed, how corrections are handled, and how we uphold journalistic integrity in every issue we publish. It also clarifies the roles of the Editor, the Editorial Board, and the Board of Directors in shaping and safeguarding our editorial independence.
