Old Ottawa East continues to grow and so does the Old Ottawa East Community Association.
The fall membership campaign started in early September, drawing to a close at the Annual General Meeting on Nov. 11.
For all new residents, the OECA welcomes you. For existing residents we look forward to continuing to see you at community events and meetings.
An annual household membership costs only $3.00. When your neighborhood volunteer canvasser comes to your door, please sign up. What else can you buy for $3.00 these days?
The small annual fee pays for association expenses, community events and hosting of the ever-changing OECA website. Any additional contributions will go to these costs as well.
If no one comes to your door, it could mean that no one signed up to canvas on your street. Please offer to help. It’s a good way to meet your neighbors. Contact Suzanne Johnston at suzanne.johnston@sympatico.ca
As OOE embarks on an exciting period of growth with a strong Community Design Plan, thanks to the hard work and commitment of many association members, we hope you and your family will be involved in your community as it evolves.
Barbara Hicks, the long time membership chair, has decided to hand over the reins this year after a long and amazing tenure. All those who have had the pleasure of working with Barbara will know why membership has gone from 50 households to over 650 households.
Thank you, Barbara for your tireless work with the OECA and your subtle and extremely effective ability to attract new volunteers. You have fostered a strong team of captains and canvassers who care about our community and will see to its continued growth.
Currently, we are looking for canvassers in the north, the southwest and the central parst of OOE. The time commitment is quite minimal, usually 1-2 hours per week and involves:
-
picking up a canvassing kit from your Zone captain over the next few weeks
-
going door-to-door on a sunny day on your appointed street to hand out notices for the Annual General Meeting and renewing or signing up new households for $3.00 each
-
handing back the canvassing kit and information to your Zone Captain near the end of October
-
attending a get-together for all canvassers and captains, held by the membership chair in the first week of November … the best part!
The past three years have seen the membership of the OECA grow from 616 to 655. As intensification continues in the area, we would like to see these numbers to grow in tandem.
We look forward to reaching out to new and current residents to be part of our neighbourhood’s growth.
